On Mynewsdesk, categories are used to structure the content in your public newsroom.
You are free to choose whatever category you like, although we recommend that you create a limited number of categories only, which you keep using consistently over time when publishing. Using a larger number of categories will not improve your reach or SEO.
a) To create a new category in your News archive, you go to the edit page of a press release, news or blog post. In the section Add structure to your content with categories, you write the category name that you want to use, and press the enter key to add it. b) To create a new category in your Media library, you go to the edit page of an image, video or document, and add the category as described above.
Adding a category to an image in the image handler basically works in the same way, although the user interface looks different. To create a new category for an image, enter edit mode for the image (hover over the image and click the edit symbol, or tick the box with the image and click Edit), then add your category. Depending on your screen size, you might need to scroll down the menu bar to the right of the image, in order to see the category settings.

c) To create a new category in Events, you go to the edit page of an event, and add the category as described above.
Categories are not available for the Contact section on your newsroom.
As soon as you have added a new category to an already published material, the category will appear in your public newsroom.
If the material with the new category is not yet published, the category will appear the moment that you publish it.
In other words: A category will only show on your public newsroom if there is some published material with that category. This is to avoid showing categories that otherwise would turn out to be empty when clicked by a visitor of your newsroom.
To further manage (pin, add pinned category image, change order, combine) your categories, go to Settings (click on the cogwheel) > Category Management.
