With Monitor you will be the first to know what’s being said and written about your brand, industry or competitor. You will learn who your audience is, what they say about you and where they speak about you. Monitor is also good to use to follow your campaigns in real-time and follow up results. To do all of this, your first step will be to set up a search profile.
On the first page you’ll find all of your existing search profiles and groups. A group can be used for example when comparing hits from two or more search profiles. To the right, you see the more options menu. Click to move a search profile into a group, to see hits from each search profile, edit a profile or delete it.
Create a new search profile
To create a new search profile, click on Create new search profile. Add a title to your search profile and choose if you want it to be in a group or not.
Sources and language settings
Decide if you want to search for both web sources and social media and then choose the languages you want to search in. You can also add sources in the dropdown menu that you want to exclude from the search profile.
A search group consists of three rows, Main search, Includes and Excludes. The main search is a mandatory field, while Includes and Excludes are optional. Let’s go through how to use them!
Add your main keyword (s) here and by using the dropdown menu next to the Main search, you have even more search options:
All words must match – Write down a keyword, for example a company name. If the keyword(s) contains only one word, then you choose All words must match. For example:
You can also use All words must match if you want to search for two or more words that must be included in the same hit(s). For example:
This means that both Tesla and Koenigsegg must be included in the hit. If an article only contains Koenigsegg, and Tesla is not mentioned, then you will not receive it.
Exact Phrase – An exact phrase is keyword(s) consisting of more than one word, for example a person’s name or a company name. For example:
We will receive hits when Elon Musk is mentioned, but not when Elon Reeve Musk is mentioned.
At least one keyword must match – Use At least one keyword must match when you have two or more keywords that don’t need to be included in the same hit. For example:
You will receive a hit if either Tesla or Koenigsegg is mentioned in the hit.
Boolean – You can set up your search profile written in Boolean language by using the Boolean option in the search menu. For example:
When you feel done with your Main search, you can choose to narrow down the result and receive even more relevant information by adding more keywords under Includes.
Start by clicking Add new row to add keyword(s). The dropdown menu works the same way here, as setting up keywords under Main search. For example:
In this case you will receive a hit if Tesla is mentioned in the same hit as Elon Musk.
Add more than one row –By adding more than one row, the monitoring tool will search for one of them, together with your Main search. For example:
In this case we will receive hits for Tesla when Elon Musk or Model X is mentioned.
Excludes are another way to narrow down the result and to refine your search profile even more by putting in words that are not relevant to you. If you write a keyword in the Excludes field, all the hits with that specific word will be excluded from your hits. For example: In this case, we will receive hits for Tesla, but never if Model S is mentioned in the hit.
You can add a new row to add more words to exclude. In this case, we will not receive any hits where Model S or/and Model X is mentioned.
You can activate Case sensitivity of each field if needed, and also add proximity between the mandatory keywords. Proximity is how close the keywords need to be to each other to be included in the hits.
If you put an asterisk (*) behind a word, e.g. sun*, you will get hits on all possible suffixes to that word: sunflower, suns, sunbathing, sunny etc.
This is a preview of what hits your media feed will generate with the keywords you’ve added. Use this function to create a search profile that you are happy with before you save. Change one word at a time to see what effect it has here before adding more.
When you are happy with your search profile in the test search click, Save. The search profile will start searching right away. Go to Mentions to see the generated hits.
